Friday Favorites

IMG_0689 Friday already? Okay, a few favorites this week:

Me:

Sam's smile

Tazo Brambleberry Tea

Getting quotes for a maid service and pretending I can afford it

Sam:

Surprising his parents with his rapidly advancing climbing skills.

Yelling "Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" every time he sees a truck

Chasing "Good Girl" around the house

Link of the week: Ali Edwards' site because it makes me happy and inspires me to get back to that creative part of me buried under piles and to do lists.

Friday Favorites

Me:

  • Long naps (when Sam takes them, I mean)
  • Being able to take a nice nap while Sam's napping after I've done some Sam-free chores (i.e. all of them) I can count on one hand the number of times this has happened.
  • Watching Sam take a book and go off by himself to "read" it

Sam:

  • The word "No" (said firmly but not in a bratty way). Sometimes he'll put his hand on mine to teach me what it is I'm not supposed to be doing.
  • Lucy's leash and other strangulation hazards he picks up along the way
  • Books - in big piles. It is amazing how fast he can clear his bookshelf onto the floor.

Link of the week: My friend Emily blogs about real life and creative parenting over at Emily Chadwick. She's honest and hilarious. What's not to love?

Friday Favorites

Rice Teabag Me:

The Container Store, office supplies and Vicodin (This last one also explains why I'm so quiet online these days. Not much in my writing world, but man the dreams I'm having! Which means I'm sleeping. I should've arranged to burst an ovarian cyst months ago!)

Sam:

Bike rides with his dad, flinging things and his organized playroom (He hasn't actually said so but I can just tell).

And now, for a new Friday Favorites feature, my link of the week:

Derek Young's New American Paradigm: The transformation of US public policy

Nathalie's Notes: You might know Derek from his sometimes funny, sometimes thoughtful and always appreciated comments on my blog. I know him from the bus stop on Pt. Fosdick Drive circa ... well, in middle school let's say.

I'm recommending his site because he truly has a talent for writing about politics and life in a way that is interesting and thought-provoking. And funny.

Me:

  • Short budget meetings
  • Talking about feelings
  • Method's squeaky green body and hair wash for babies with rice milk + mallow (smells soooo good!)

Sam:

  • Anything with buckles
  • Playing with water - especially if he dumped it out of his glass
  • Hangin' with his dad

Sorry guys for such a light posting week, I've been dealing with some weird stuff this week. I posted a bit last night but it was after two margaritas and I thought better of it. This morning I still think it's funny but I suppose it's a bit like drunk dialing where it seemed like a good idea at the time ...

Friday Favorites

IMG_0402 A few of our favorites this week:

Me:

  • Having my parents here to take care of Sam while I was sick
  • Hearing Sam call my parents Omama and Opapa
  • Wonderful books like Molly Wizenberg's A Homemade Life

  • Swimming with Sam

  • Eating and eavesdropping at The Soup Spoon in Welches all by myself!

Sam:

  • All of the adoring attention from Omama and Opapa
  • Shoes - and forcing everyone to wear them

  • Sleeping in his stroller while Omama pushed him

Friday Favorites

A few of our favorite things this week:

Me:

  • Burt's Bees lip balms -  now I get why people spend $6.00 on these lovely little tubes
  • Lipton's cold brew iced tea - fast, cheap and delicious
  • iPod shuffle - Matt won this in an auction and it sat in our junk drawer for twoyears because I had no idea how to use it. Two years and 20 minutes later, I love this thing! Listening to my iPod is like swimming or taking a shower with the monitor turned off: it's just me.
  • Theraflu - except that I'm considering launching a campaign to bring back pseudoephedrine. Damn tweakers.

Sam:

  • Buckles
  • Velcro
  • Cah's
